When it is needed

Materials we work with
Softwood
Redwood and whitewood for skirtings, architraves, studwork and painted joinery. Cost-effective, stable when it has been stored dry, and the standard choice where the finish is paint.
Hardwood
Oak, ash and similar for stair parts, thresholds, worktops and anything staying natural. Harder wearing, heavier, and needs pre-drilling and the right fixings.
Engineered boards
MDF, MRMDF and plywood for panelling, linings and carcassing. Dimensionally stable, takes paint beautifully, and moisture-resistant grades belong anywhere near a kitchen or bathroom.
Fixings and ironmongery
Hinges, locks, handles and fixings chosen for the weight of the door and the substrate behind it, a heavy fire door into a stud wall needs a different answer to a light internal door into masonry.
