Overview
What kitchen installation covers, and who it is for
What the service is
A full kitchen installation: supplying the kitchen where you want us to, or fitting one you have bought, then preparing and levelling the floor, setting and fixing the cabinets, installing worktops and splashbacks, and coordinating the plumbing and electrical work around it.
Who it is for
Homeowners replacing a kitchen that has reached the end of its life, buyers renovating before they move in, landlords refitting a rental to a durable standard, and anyone who has bought a kitchen and now needs a joiner who will fit it properly.
When it is needed
When doors and drawers no longer close, when worktops have swollen around the sink, when the layout stopped working for how you actually cook, or when you are renovating and the kitchen is the one room worth doing once and doing properly.
Why professional help matters
Kitchen installation is where joinery tolerances meet appliances, services and stone. Cabinets set on an unlevel floor throw every door line out; a worktop cut short cannot be uncut; a sink cut-out sealed badly swells the substrate within a year. It is also the room where bad work is most visible, because you stand in it every day at close range.
What's included
- Supply and fit kitchens, including Howdens ranges
- Fitting customer-supplied kitchens
- Cabinets, worktops and splashbacks
- Floor levelling and preparation before installation
- Coordination of plumbing and electrical trades
What it costs to leave it
What happens when this work is put off
Kitchen problems are rarely cosmetic for long, because this is the wettest, hottest and hardest-worked room in the house.
Water finds every unsealed joint
An unsealed worktop cut-out or a poorly finished splashback junction lets water into the substrate. Swollen chipboard cannot be repaired, the worktop is replaced, usually along with the cabinet below it.
Unlevel floors wreck door lines
If the run is not levelled and packed, doors and drawer fronts sit out of alignment. Every adjustment you make afterwards is fighting the floor rather than the hinge.
Cabinets pull off the wall
Wall units fixed into plasterboard without finding timber or using the right fixing will carry crockery until they do not. That is a genuine injury risk, not a snag.
Uncoordinated trades stall the job
When the plumber, electrician and fitter are booked separately, one slipped date leaves you without a working kitchen for days longer than planned.
Common mistakes we are called in to correct
- Ordering the kitchen before anyone has measured the room and checked the services
- Fitting new units straight onto an old, uneven floor to save a day
- Choosing a worktop material without considering how the sink and hob cut-outs will be sealed
- Leaving no allowance for appliance clearances, door swings and handle collisions
- Assuming existing plumbing and electrical positions will suit a new layout
Our process
How the job runs from first call to guarantee
Your call and initial questions
You ring 07901 993084 or send the estimate form. We ask enough about the property, the scope and your timescale to know whether the job suits us and when we could realistically start. If it is not work we can do well, we say so at that point rather than after a wasted visit.
Free site visit and measure
We come out and measure the actual space. Site visits are arranged as quickly as the size and complexity of the job allow, and they cost nothing. Measuring on site is what makes a fixed price possible, walls are rarely square, and photographs hide the details that change a price.
Design, supply options and fixed price
We talk through layout, materials and appliance positions, and price the work as supply and fit, including ranges from suppliers such as Howdens, or as a fit-only job if you already have the kitchen. Where the scope is clear the quotation is a fixed price, and it sets out what other trades are included.
Strip out, level, install, finish
The old kitchen comes out, the floor is prepared and levelled, cabinets are set and scribed to the walls, worktops and splashbacks are fitted and sealed, and the plumbing and electrical connections are carried out by qualified tradespeople we bring in and coordinate.
Handover, tidy-up and 12-month guarantee
We walk the finished work with you, deal with anything you are not happy with there and then, and clear the site. Our workmanship is covered by a 12-month guarantee on issues arising directly from our installation. Full warranty terms are confirmed as part of your quotation.
The benefits
What you actually get for the money
Fitted by our own joiners
Mark and his own small team carry out the joinery and installation rather than handing your job to a fitter you have never met.
Groundwork done first
Floors levelled and substrates prepared before a single cabinet goes down, which is why the door lines stay right.
Sealed against water where it matters
Cut-outs, joints and splashback junctions sealed properly, because that is where kitchens fail first.
One point of contact for every trade
Plumbing and electrical work is carried out by qualified tradespeople and scheduled by us, so you are not the project manager.
A price you can plan around
Free site visit, written quotation, and a fixed price wherever the scope can be clearly established.
12-month workmanship guarantee
Covers issues arising directly from our installation, with full terms confirmed in your quotation.
In detail
Materials, methods and variations of kitchen installation
Kitchen installation spans several quite different disciplines, and the material choices in each one change both the price and the lifespan of the finished room.
Materials we work with
Cabinet carcasses
Rigid and flat-pack carcasses in moisture-resistant board, with the fixing method chosen for the wall behind, masonry, dot-and-dab plasterboard and stud all need a different answer.
Laminate worktops
Cost-effective and hard-wearing, provided the cut edges and cut-outs are sealed properly. Post-formed and square-edge profiles, with mason's mitres on corner joints.
Solid timber worktops
Oak and other hardwoods, as in the solid oak worktops and breakfast bar we fitted for a customer in Cumbernauld, precision cuts, and oiling to keep water out of the grain.
Splashbacks and upstands
Tiled, glass, acrylic or matching worktop material, junctions sealed against the worktop so steam and spills cannot get behind.
Flooring and levelling compounds
Levelling and preparation of the subfloor before the kitchen goes in, which is the single most common thing skipped by cheaper quotes.
Variations of this service
Supply and fit
We source the kitchen: including Howdens ranges, and install it, so specification, delivery and fit sit with one contractor.
Fit-only installation
You buy the kitchen, we install it. Common with online or retailer purchases where the retailer's own fitting is not what you want.
Kitchen refit with layout change
Moving sink, hob and appliance positions, which brings the plumbing and electrical trades in and needs sequencing to keep the disruption short.
Partial refresh
New doors, worktops, splashback and handles onto sound existing carcasses, where the bones of the kitchen are still good.
Worktop replacement
Templating and fitting new worktops, including solid timber and breakfast bars, as a standalone job.
Residential work
Domestic installs are planned so the household is without a kitchen for as short a period as practical, with the strip-out, levelling and install sequenced tightly and the site cleared each day. In tenement and period properties around Glasgow and Cumbernauld, out-of-square walls and uneven floors are the norm, which is exactly why we measure and level rather than assume.
Commercial work
For commercial and rental settings the emphasis shifts to durability and turnaround: hard-wearing specifications, robust fixings, and work scheduled around trading hours or a tenancy changeover date.
